multiply is an online community similar to orkut, friendster and livejournal but with additional benefits. Even the most inexperienced user can set up a multiply account with minimal strife. Instead of standard friend settings you can set different sorts of relationships with your contacts. You page's content has different categories (reviews, photo albums, music, video, journals and more) and each has adjustable privacy settings.
deviantArt is an online community with free and paid memberships available. It's designed for sharing, exhibiting, critiquing and appreciating various forms of art. Within the community there are groups and competitions. You may purchase prints of artworks that have been offered for sale or simply collect your favourites in your gallery. It also provides a blog and has an internal mail system.
Live Journal is, as it's name suggests, an online journal. It has free and paid accounts, friend lists and has a large number of interest groups for members. You can also start your own. Entries can be posted via a number of freeware programs or through the page itself. I use semagic for posting my blogs.
